The Social Network: best trailer this year?

One Day

i just bought a book. the first book i’ve paid for in i-don’t-know-how-long. i find that i buy things on impulse more and more these days. last week it was a swim suit from target because i got fed up with going to stores and discovering that they didn’t actually offer any of the swim suits they’d advertised (cough, cough, J Crew!). $45 later, i hit BUY. 45 minutes later i completely forgot that i ordered anything. 4-5 days later i get a package in the mail thinking someone sent me a present (i love getting personal mail!) and then i remember i bought something online and cross my fingers i still care enough to own it without filling out the dreaded paperwork just to send it back.

i digress. back to my book. in a few short taps on my iPad, i was able to purchase (and recieve!) the British novel One Day, by David Nicholls. i was inspired by this press release:  http://www.mcnblogs.com/theatreblog/2010/07/one_day_new_film_from_focus_fe.html.

The article explains that Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess (of Across the Universe fame…sigh) started production today [a very relevant date as you'll see below!] on the film adaptation of One Day, whose “story charts an extraordinary relationship. Emma (played by Ms. Hathaway) and Dexter (Mr. Sturgess) meet on the night of their college graduation – July 15th, 1988. She is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place. He is a wealthy charmer who dreams that the world will be his playground. For the next two decades, every July 15th reveals to us how “Em” and “Dex” are faring, as their friendship ebbs and flows with the passing of the years. Through laughter and romance, heartbreak and exhilaration, they experience the grandeur of life. Somewhere along their journey, these two people realize that what they are searching and hoping for has been there for them all along.”

i won’t get into the details, but for a multitude of reasons, this synopsis speaks to me. at least, loud enough to make an impluse buy. i’ll let you know how it is!
